Earlier this year, Keb’ Mo’ along with longtime Engineer Zach Allen took to the studio to craft what for fans was a long time coming. After years of talking about it, Keb’ Mo’ (Kevin Moore) released a stripped down acoustic record today called “The Breakdown” on Concord Records. Outside of a guest spot by gospel legends Take 6 on “They Don’t Make ‘Em Like They Used To” (Co Written by Mo’ and Allen) and The Soweto Gospel Choir on a new version of the Keb’ Mo’ classic “Hand It Over” the entire album consisted of just one vocal and one guitar. “I wanted to record and mix this album as if Keb’ were sitting in your living room playing to you,” said Allen of the production process. “When one thinks acoustic record, you probably assume it was pretty simple to accomplish but I would say for me this was easily the most challenging record I have ever had to make. Every bar had to be interesting and when all you have is a guitar and vocal you really have to vet every single thing. Early reviews have been off the charts as one publication called it “his most emotional and vulnerable recording to date.” This also marks the first time Allen received the Production nod from Mo’.
